June is pride month so what a good time to look at how inclusive your organisation is. Approx. 1/3 of LGBTQ staff hide their sexual orientation in work due to fears over how they will be treated. A clear message from management will help staff feel secure and one way to do this is to check your organisation’s Diversity and Inclusion policy and update if necessary. This will help promote equal opportunities and ensure staff are confident in the recruitment process.
Managers also have the responsibility to protect the health and well-being of their staff so must ensure that all employees are aware of the zero-tolerance approach to harassment or bullying based on sexual orientation or gender even if it is being called office banter.
